Country Arts WA is an independent not-for-profit organisation that ensures regional communities are able to use culture and the arts as part of their community"s development and celebrations.

For Communities

Gascoyne Focus Region

Gascoyne mapOver the next four years (2010 - 2013) the Gascoyne region will receive focused funding and support to increase community capacity, resources and enthusiasm for arts and culture.

Country Arts WA will partner with Gascoyne Development Commission over the period of the Focus Region Initiative to deliver services and benefits to the region, such as a full-time Regional Arts Development Officer stationed in the region; the Out There youth arts development residency program; priority for performing arts touring initiatives; a dedicated arts funding program and the opportunity to host Country Arts WA's 2015 State Regional Arts Conference, which is expected to attract more than 300 people to the region.

The partnership follows on from a placement of a Gascoyne Arts Development Officer in the region by the Department of Culture and the Arts. Sarah Trant was based in the Gascoyne from 2004 until 2009 and worked with artists and arts organisations on a range of projects which developed arts practice in the region.

The Focus Region Initiative was developed in 2001 in response to the need for long-term strategic support to develop arts communities in regional Western Australia.

GASCOYNEARTS - An Arts and Cultural Plan for the Gascoyne

GascoyneArts was developed as part of the Focus Region initiative of Country Arts WA in partnership with the Gascoyne Development Commission. GascoyneArts doesn't define everything that should be supported over the next 4 years. Instead, it is a framework for the successful growth and development of activities and groups locally and across the region and is a catalyst for creativity supporting people and groups to pursue their own aspirations.

What does GascoyneArts do?

GascoyneArts:

  • Identifies a 10 year cultural vision for the Gascoyne based on shared Values.
  • Identifies and celebrates the cultural assets and identity of the communities of the Gascoyne; and
  • Provides a 4 year plan for arts and cultural development.

How do we make it work?

  • GascoyneArts captures diverse views and voices from across the Gascoyne.
  • The Actions are those opportunities where there are community and/or government bodies who have stepped forward to pursue them.
  • GascoyneArts will be overseen by the Gascoyne Regional Arts Committee, a new body to be made up of local arts groups, artists, Local Government and the Gascoyne Development Commission. The Committee will monitor the implementation of GascoyneArts, make adjustments as necessary and provide a public progress report once a year. The Committee will be responsible for the ongoing review and renewal of GascoyneArts.
