What does science mean to you?

The Australian Museum and New Scientist invite you to enter the New Scientist Eureka Prize for Science Photography for your chance to share in $10,000.

Open to all Australians 18 years and over, this Eureka Prize is awarded for a single photograph that most effectively communicates an aspect of science. What does science mean to you?

Act Belong Commit WORN ART 2010: Uncommon Nonsense

‘Worn Art is a fantastic example of how the community spirit of Broome enriches our lives.'

You are invited to submit creations designed for the human body (wearable art) to be showcased in Act Belong Commit Worn Art 2009. Creations, once entered, are judged in the category of choice of the artist and exhibited live on stage before an appreciative audience. The Worn Art show is a spectacle of music, light, creativity and theatre. Worn Art provides great opportunities for creators of all ages to experiment with familiar materials and to explore new mediums and techniques to create the weird, the wild and the wonderful.

Title of the show and overall theme: "UNCOMMON NONSENSE"

This year's categories are:

  • Wonderment - For young, emerging artists under 13 
  • Couriouser  and Couriouser - Creative + unusual uses for existing materials                                         
  • Off the Wall Youth -  high school students
  • Unravelling Riddles  for first timers
  • Night Quadrille - creative use of fluoro colours under black light
  • Queen of Tarts - Revealing the secrets of under garments
  • Dreaming after a Fashion - Explore the use of traditional costuming materials 

Please note that all entries are automatically entered into the following categories:

  • Open overall                                                                                  
  • Student -  (13 - 17 yrs.) Made by the student         .                                  
  • People's choice - Audience chooses a winner

You are invited to participate in Australia's newest portraiture competition - the City of Perth Black Swan Prize for Portraiture.

In 2010 the Lester Group 1st prize has increased to $30,000 (non-acquisitive), and the special Perrine People's Choice Prize of $7,500 will once again cause great debate amongst visitors to the exhibition.

Calling young talented theatre performers from across Australia: Storm the Stage

Storm the Stage is seeking youth theatre performers between the ages of 16 and 19 for the 2010 competition.  

Storm the Stage is a national Rotary project backed by IFAC (International Foundation for Arts and Culture) and is supported by Hugh Jackman and Jill Perryman as patron, both Western Australian international actors.

Now in its sixth year, Storm the Stage entrants will gain valuable practical experience as they are led through the heats and semi-finals, and most importantly will make lasting friendships with their peers.

Twenty candidates will achieve selection to the finals where they will perform at the University of WA's intimate Octagon Theatre on December 2. Prizes of up to $10,000 will be awarded including workshops on performance and the theatre industry. Finalists will be accommodated in Perth at a tertiary college. With an emphasis on solo performances and a ‘back to theatre' approach young people will receive guidance and feedback from professionals in theatre within a nurturing environment, including workshops conducted by Black Swan Theatre for the national finalists.

Indigenous Community Stories Initiative (ICS): 4th Round Applications Now Open

ScreenWest, in partnership with the Film and Television Institute (FTI), is calling for applications from Indigenous communities who are interested in recording, preserving and archiving the stories, accomplishments and reflections of their community members.

Indigenous Community Stories is an initiative which is aiming to film 100 Western Australian Indigenous stories and digitally archive them for future generations to view over the next 100 years and beyond.

ScreenWest will manage the applications and selection process of the community stories that will be filmed. FTI will then coordinate a film crew to visit the successful applicants' community, to film and digitally archive the stories.

ScreenWest is keen to hear from community coordinators or representatives who want to have their community's stories recorded on film.

2010 Cossack Art Awards

Entry Forms are now available for the Cossack Art Awards 2010. With Rio Tinto as the principal partner and support from many other businesses, total prize money for this Shire of Roebourne event now equals $77,000. There are a wide range of categories available to suit a variety of artists.

Calling for Entries in the Agricultural Art Award

Almost $3,000 is up for grabs in the annual Agricultural Art Award as part of the annual Perth Royal Show.

Entries in the Agricultural Art Award must have won a rural competition either through affiliated agricultural societies around Western Australia, a significant fine art exhibition or during an agricultural open day to be eligible.

Entries must have a rural theme and can be in all mediums of painting including oil, watercolour and acrylic. 

Run by The Royal Agricultural Society of WA, all entry winners are displayed each year at the Perth Royal Show.

Call for entries: hedland art awards 2010

The Courthouse Gallery is excited to announce another year celebrating the cultural growth of our region as they prepare for the 2010 Hedland Art Awards, opening on Friday 10 September, at the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery.

Entries to the Awards are now open to artists living in the Pilbara, Mid West, Gascoyne and Kimberley regions, with combined prize money totaling $40,000 across eight Award categories.

Nyoongar Art Awards 2010

The Nyoongar Art Awards aim to promote Contemporary Aboriginal Art from the Nyoongar Nations of Australia.

The Town of Kwinana and the City of Rockingham invite Aboriginal artists of Nyoongar heritage who reside and work in Nyoongar country to enter this annual meeting.
