Tips > Promoting your project

Promoting your project lets the community know what you are doing and the project you are working on. The best way to get people interested in coming to the final show case or performance of your project is to invite them to come down to the workshops to have a look, meet the artist/s and your project group, and maybe even participate themselves. It is also the best way to get people to come to the final performance or showcase of your project. Start to create audience interest. After all arts projects are all about getting your voice out there.

Think about:

  • Who you are trying to target with your publicity…this will affect the language you use and what the promotional material looks or sounds like.
  • What time the performance/showcase will be on?
  • If it will it cost anything?
  • How you will use the logos/acknowledgements from your funding body?
  • How you will do it? Will you:
    • Make flyers and hand them out in busy places or ask teachers to give them to their students to take home with them?
    • Make posters and put them up in the local shop, office, telecentre, shire office?
    • write newspaper/newsletter articles?
    • write a media release?
    • use word-of-mouth?
    • go on the radio?
    • email people?
    • talk at a school assembly?
    • make a myspace?
    • sms your friends (if you have range)?
  • Keeping copies of all of these materials for your acquittal
