Country Arts WA works with all nine regions to ensure arts and culture is woven into the fabric of life in every regional community in Western Australia.
Recognised as a lead organisation, Country Arts WA is the peak body for regional arts and is an independent, not-for-profit, membership based organisation. We are the only arts organisation in WA with a state-wide arts and cultural brief.
The role of Country Arts WA is to build creativity, capacity and connection in and between regional communities to further develop Western Australia’s regional arts sector.
Our friends over at Spare Parts Puppet Theatre have returned to UWA's Dolphin Theatre for their latest production "Rules of Summer" - which starts today. Adapted from Shaun Tan's book, the tale of unwritten rules of friendship between two boys is an immersive, interactive, multi-sensory puppetry work. It's running all through the school holidays, up to October 8, so make sure to catch it if you're in town.

Tim Neeson has been on the Board of Country Arts WA since 2016. Tim’s tenure is not quite as short as his hair, and yet in the limited time, he has still contributed a significant amount to the Board including the Indigenous Working Party which has been instrumental in the development of Country Arts WA’s Reconciliation Action Plan. He is so passionate about it, he will continue to see the development of the RAP after his time on the Board finishes. Tim’s experience in technology in the arts and collaborative community-based arts projects was greatly valued by the Board. Tim’s term on the Country Arts WA Board will come to an end at the AGM in October at the 2017 WA Regional Arts Summit. Thank you Tim for everything you have contributed during your time on the Board! Shane Colquhoun has been on the Board of Country Arts WA as the representative of Black Swan Theatre since 2012, and then co-opted since 2014. It actually seems strange to think of our Board without Shane on it! As Vice Chair and previous Secretary, Shane contributed a significant amount to the Executive team, Finance Sub Committee as well the Fundraising and Sponsorship Sub Committee. Is he really leaving us? Shane’s term on the Country Arts WA Board will come to an end at the AGM in October at the 2017 WA Regional Arts Summit. Thank you Shane for everything you have contributed over the last five years!

Following two devastating bushfires in 2015, the South West community of Northcliffe worked with sculptor Kim Perrier to create plaster casts of the local community throughout the Understorey Art & Nature Trail as part of the town’s rebuilding process. The project brought together locals from all walks of life within the town – from dairy farmers and members of the fire brigade to public servants and the local arts community. Over 60 people had their faces, torsos or full-figures casted in plaster. The resulting reliefs were adhered to burnt trees throughout the trail, creating a public art project that merges creativity, recovery, nature and discovery. Learn more about Rising from the Ashes - Northcliffe's story of creative recovery - at the 2017 WA Regional Arts Summit in Mandurah, 12 - 15 October.
