Drug Aware YCulture Regional

Drug Aware YCulture Regional is a funding initiative dedicated to regionally-based young people, aged 12 to 26, to assist in actively creating, planning, and delivering their own arts projects.

Drug Aware YCulture Regional offers young artists funding up to $4,000 (or up to $6,000 – if you live above the 26th parallel or in very remote Western Australia) towards community arts projects developed and administered by young people, for young people, across all art forms.

This fund primarily focuses on skills development, which can include music workshops, script writing and production, graffiti art, writing and illustration, dance residencies, new media, and much more!

Funding is available throughout the year and can cover project costs, including artist fees, artist travel, materials, promotional costs, documentation, or venue hire.

Is this the right grant for you?

  • Are you aged between 12-26 years old, and live in regional Western Australia?
  • Do you have an arts idea that benefits the community?
  • Are you passionate about promoting the Drug Aware message?
  • Will your project provide participants the opportunity to learn or improve their artistic skills?

Before you start your application, we strongly recommend reading the Drug Aware YCulture Regional Guidelines and contacting a regional arts development officer to discuss your idea. The officer will be able to answer your questions and provide helpful feedback on draft applications – provided they are contacted well before the application’s due date.

Closing date:

Applications may be lodged at any time throughout the year with applicants permitted to apply for funding twice per calendar year (subject to the availability of funding). All applications must be submitted at least six weeks prior to the project’s intended start date.

Your application will be assessed by your contemporaries, a panel of two regionally-based young people engaged in arts and cultural activities within their own communities.

All successful applicants will need to sign an agreement with the main sponsor, Drug Aware, recognising and explaining how you can/plan to promote the Drug Aware message in your project.

Please download the Drug Aware YCulture Regional logo pack from the Funding Resources page.

Acquittals can be completed via SmartyGrants. Please note that hardcopy acquittals are no longer accepted.

A Drug Aware YCulture Project Journal will be provided to you so you can chart the development of your project. You are encouraged to document your journey and report on your project outcomes – don’t forget to take photos (or the odd video) at various stages too as these are essential prerequisites! Journals are to be submitted within the four weeks following the project’s completion.

The Journal can be downloaded via the SmartyGrants website. Please download Participant Feedback forms here.
